what do you think of the spec?
AMD Athlon dual core 5200 (2.6ghz) 1mb Cache L2
Asus Crosshair ROG motherboard
2x 1Gig sticks of corsair dual channel memory (DDR2 6400)
Nvidia 8800GTS Grpahics card
400GB Maxtor Hard drive
DVD RW, Floppy etc
Thermaltake Tsunami case + 120mm fans
700w PSU
Windows Vista Home Prem
any things that could be improved/recommend?

If you are going all out and putting an 8800 in there you can't settle for amd.
Get an e6600 or whatever it is in there.
Or if thats over budget the one with only 2mb level 2 cache.

Intel Core 2 Duo massively outperforms any AMD dual core chips, so go Intel.
And Maxtor hd? Don't even think about it.

If you're going hi-spec, i'd get a WD Raptor (10,000 RPM) hard disk in as the main drive, then a samsung spin point as a secondary drive for storage.

yes i already have a raptor so will use that as main, 400 is for extra storage. I have never had probs with maxtor?
but the Asus Corsshair board and dual core chip allows superb overclocking for a good price.
As regards Intel can anyone recommend a similar board to the Crosshair listed above? need twin x16 speed PCI-E ports

Don't use single disks -- go RAID5
