I opened up the oil filler cap before and there is like a brown sludge on it, any ideas what it could be apart from head gasket i changed the oil 100 miles ago this couldnt have caused it cud it?

i have no idea what else if a sypmton of a head gasket apart from the sludge could that be anything else or does it point to the head gasket?

Is there sludge in the water? Is the cars water level going down fast?

sounds like condensation my 1.2 8v used to do it all the time in winter

My 1.2 8 valve does it, every winter it gets some yellow shit under the oil cap, its never lost coolant and never overheats

as said condensation nothing to worry about mate
especially bad on short runs
the mayo substnace is a result of water and oil mixing.

yeah it goes when the engine is warm,
Just noticed your from St Helens< you dont live near the lancs do you, im sure i see a TT there

mine used to do this, yet it had no head gasket issues! i solved the problem by taking the engine out and replacing it with a bigger one! lol

I checked my oil this morning and had a bit of yellow stuff on the oil cap, is never there after a long journey so must be condensation.

Sort of puts my mind at ease lol, any other sympton i should look for it has lost a slight bit of coolant since i last filled it up in the summer
