We reported a while back about how OC Team Italy had unpacked it golden Pentium 4 631 to throw some liquid nitrogen on it. With a non-modified ASUS P5B motherboard they managed to reach a whopping 7520MHz, but pointed out that the motherboard made it impossible to go any further. Now that they have once again mounted the copper pipe and made the necessary voltage modifications, the liquid nitrogen once again did its thing and made it possible for them to finally reach 8000MHz! We bow and congratulate them for this historical achievement and we're eager to see if this will remain the record or if more will bring out their Pentium 4s

iirc that was a video that was recorded in 2004 (hence it being old news) and was for 5ghz. This is a different one.

I remember when i used to worry more about overclocking actually playing games. I'd spent hours upon hours running 3dmark, changing voltages etc and all for a few fps more in game.
8Ghz is some achievement though

TBH doug most of it is just fro bragging rights. that wont be stable enough to be useful.
However home overclocking can give massive performance increase for the cost of a better heatsink/fan/controller.
Its all about getting the balance right

as Topshot said.
I purchase an AMD Opteron a while ago and managed to get it to 3ghz stable. For the price of the chip and how it performed I was laughing This was on standard air cooling as well.
Fcuk all this Liquid Nitrogen malarky I value my health

whoa, been a while since i messed with all that, I'm sure everything is a lot different now.
I always preferred the Thermalright heatsinks coupled with a 120mm fan. Huge airflow and not much noise

i dont bother overclocking, its ovverated imo, a lot of times the chip will perform worse even if its running at a higher frequency due to heat.

but some chips respond really well, My athlon XP 1.5ghz overclocked to 2Ghz and has been running for 4 years

I think what Steve was trying to say is that when you overclock you normally have to up the voltages which in turn raises the temperature at which they operate. This can sometimes dramtically decrease the lifespan of the chip.
It either works, or it doesn't
