In my computer go to Tools, Folder Options, View, then click on untick "hide extensions for known file types" This will let you know what kind of file it is and people help you a bit better.

I'd imagine it's an ISO which means you'd need to mount it, or burn it to a CD

yeah add your own extension as above and try if it's one of them

ie. (nameofthing).zip, (nameofthing).rar etc...
Then see if winzip, winrar or media player will open the file.

But VLC plays most things so try opening it in there!

Agreed. VLC will play it. If it doesn't then it's not a proper movie.

there are still quite a few codecs that VLC won't play, ratDVD being one of them (need codec for it).

Thing is, if its the film Bambi, chances of it being anything other than an avi/mpg/mpeg/mp4 is pretty small. Add the extension of one of those and see what happens. Or drag and drop it into winrar/alzip etc and see if it opens it.
Failing all of that, wack .iso/.bin as the extension and try and mount it using Demon Tools

TBH it's sickening how people can use torrents and rip off movies then not know how to play them.

The amount of people whining on torrentspy who don't know what the fuck they're on about is shite.
