When driving sometimes you can feel and hear a "Bump bump bump bump" coming from somewhere. So me and my dad took the front wheels off, one at a time, and started it up with the wheels in the air so that it would spin.
We thought it might of been the outer CV joint because the rubber boot is split, but the noise didn't seem to come from there it was coming more from the inner cv joint. Not really sure though....
My dad said the wheels might need balacing, but i'm not sure - the stearing wheel doesn't shake or anything and i though that was a sign of wheels needing balanced.
Any ideas what it could be ? It seems if it's coming from the inner cv joint or further in.
What does the drive shaf attach too ? The crank shaft or the transmission or something ?
Thanks.

driveshaft connects to the diff via the inner cv.
noise from the outer cv's is only usually heard whilst under load on full lock.

Ok thanks, what do you mean by "diff"
It was making the noise/bumping when the car is running.
Thanks

And it's the inner cv joint the noise is coming from, or there abouts.

the diff is what transmits drive from the gearbox...
its more than likely an engine mount gone or something similar..

Is it easy to see where the engine mounts are ? if that was the problem would the engine need to be taken out to fit the new mount ?
