Yes i managed to get hold of the cash to get one without selling the Wii, however... ive signed into Xbox live but none of my mates have one, so if i wana play against people, how do i find out there gamer tags, i know i can just play random people on COD3 but i dont know who any of them are

open the guide menu by pressing the silver button in the middle of the pad.
Scroll down to where you have three buttons, first one is messages, next one is friends, the 3rd one is a list of players you've played against.
You can add them or message them from here

I know how you feel mate
It's best to gradually build up a list of people who you know are around your skill level and play fair. That way if you ever host a game you can just invite a load of your mates into it and it should be good fun
