No.
You won't feel 3bhp anyway.

The reason your brother beats you is because the GSi probably doesn't have electric windows or air con, which between them weigh a fair bit.
C16XE was 109bhp and the X16XE is 106bhp. It is believed the C16XE is a better base for tuning as the inlet ports are slightly larger.

IF you keep the head standard, it is better, yes.
However, certain people have seen very very good power figures using X14XE heads, on here...

Steve, all Family 1 GM engines are ECOTEC engines. Its not just EGR that specifies an ECOTEC engine, but its design, fuel injection, exhaust output levels etc etc

EGR valve, recirc pump etc are there to reduce emissions, when the GSi came out the newer emissions regs were not in place and so the c16 did not need the extra pump/valve etc like the X16xe which had to meet sticter regulations on its emissions

My 1.2 has never made 50 mpg even on long runs being driven economically so not sure how the 1.6 engine is meant to be able to

messed about with my z18xe today, so many things are suprisingly similar to the x16xe. the gearbox even has the bolt holes and threads in to accept a corsa B mount, cam covers are the same....

oh, better off using a vectra engine for a transplant as well, drivers side mount doesnt go through the middle of the timing belt
