:Bodyfiller to fill big chips
:Sandpaper (Quite obvious realy)
:High build primer
:Actual paint

Anything else i need to consider?

taken tyres off if not tape and newspaper to prevent overspray

be better to get at least the beads popped off the tyre on the front edge, then you can blow them back up yourself,

would recommend painting in the warmest dust free environment you can find/make do with. use as many heaters as you can as i have experienced more than once now that with rattle cans the paint and laquer sits alot better and finishes more shiny with a hotter environment.

pics to prove a good job can be made, both the wheels below were done by me with halfords cans

does normal car filler work for chipc on the rim etc?

yes thats fine, make sure its a good quality one though. the ultima one from halfords is good, silver tin, yellow lid.

oh yeah, and about 4-5 coats of laquer is what i would recommend.
