I've brought a cpu off a "mate" its got windows on it but im trying to run a game and its say that it needs directx 9 or greater to be installed, the game installed this and i have done it manually, if the windows copy on there isnt genuine would this have something to do with it?

think it is dodgy as microsoft site says it cant validate it, so if it is dodgy would this affect directx being installed etc

No, mine is a "dodgy" copy, and I have Dx 9 installed.

You can't download DX9.0c from MS without validating your windows copy.
This gets difficult with a dodgy copy.
Download it from here:
http://www.freewarefiles.com/downloads_counter.php?programid=516
I think it is the correct version, virus check it though.
