undo the tiny screws on laptop, remove cover, slide HD out and put new one in. Install OS etc and jobs done

is there a way to fix a partition though? its my c drive thats broke but if i try and run the other hardrive partition itll try and install to c but fail and then says dtlr? missing

as long as its a 2.5" notebook drive then yes it wil open the little panel underneath the lappy and have a look just to make sure

Nearly but not quite - make sure its an ATA disk rather than a SATA one which is becoming more popular in newer laptops.
