well the one i did, water was getting into the oil, so got the head skimmed, new head bolts etc, new gasket, all back together but it was pinking so we retarded the timing slightly.
One month later, gasket gone again, water getting into the cylinder.

First two pics make it look a gold colour... Personally i'd be trying to avoid the grandad looke with it being a Rover .
Stretched tyres on the back, but not the front so it looks like they're the wrong offset?

Just had a read of this check the graphs near the bottom of the page, K series 1700cc putting out around the 250bhp mark (with graph)
Also 1.4 16v / 1.6 16v / 1.8 vvc engines put out more power than Xe's do as standard

So 1700cc is the same as 1.6 litres now then?
They may well make more power standard, that doesn't make them a better engine though.

I presumed it was originally a 1600 as they never made a 1700 to my knowledge?
I might have another search for highly tuned 1600 K series' tomorrow
Tbh i always liked the K series and apart from the Odd HGF they seemed like decent reliable engines which had a bit of poke about them, I believe my friends HG went on his 1600 and he replaced it with a steel gasket iirc (i think these were used on discovery's) and he never had a problem since and it got quite a bit of abuse

Doesn't the K in the Superlight R make some silly power?

It would have been, but a 1.7 'X16XE' would make more power than a 1.6 one....

That looks bloody amazing.
Never seen anythging like it.
Might see if I can persuade the old man to try something like that with his BRM.
Btw, I used to hate the K series too when I worked at a Rover garage and all there was, was the awful 1.4 that made no power or torque and didnt even want to rev, plus was realy harsh and rough feeling/sounding, but i've been a convert since driving the VVC 1.8.
Realy nice little engine.
