works like a treat but dnt hold it too close or for too long as it melts the plastic

Be careful. Even my trusty 10 year old Black and Decker heat gun could melt the trims!

I tried this. They didn't go back to black. I tried holding it far away, close, somewhere in between and the only effect that it had was to start melting the arch. Great
