best way to take out an engine?

did mine the other week taking it out we lifted the car over the engine. putting it back in we lifted the engine thru the top found it much easier thru the top just need a few big lads

think im gna be lifting because i cant get the car high enough....... 
but now the cranes bust aswell

how can you not get the car high enough.? Lift the car and engine with a crane and then stick it on the higest axle stand setting. Attach crane to engine and then lower away and drag it out the bottom.

well my engine crane im menna be using is bust. so.........................
only other way cud be using the beam in the ceiling etc. i'll se what happens.

the way i did my engine was lower the car right down with no wheels on so you can get the engine resting on i small piece of wood undo mounts a bits and then got a few of us to lift the car over the top and carry it down my drive

Sat like that for weeks, only time we near had an oopsie was when we were lifting the car with the engine hoist, the rope snapped and the car landed on the wheels and blocks, twas fine
