last month my engine started to make a tapping noise when it was on idle not very loud but could be heard then i got alot louder and could be hear when being reved.which when i was driving it the oil light came on and went straigh back out?even though i had a oil and filter change a month earlier.so i topped the oil up etc and it seemed to go away but now the noise has come back today so i checked the oil and it was low so topped it up any ideas wot the problem could be? gonna try and get it booked in with the garage for next week,as i wont to get all the belts changed.
so any one got idea wot may be the problem? its 1.6 16v sport

the noise is the tappets i think not getting oil to them from being low oil in the engine, low oil means your car could be burning oil.. any blue smoke? or could be leaking, checked the sump? checked the filter is tight?

not got any blue smoke.does not sem to be leeking.and the filter is on tight. i have white smoke wen i start it up in the morning or after a few hours of not using it

take your oil cap off and see if it has a murky brown/white cream on it, could be headgasket

You dont have to have low oil to get noisy tappets. Mine tapped like mad on the way up to the meet up castle multi-story. went for a 3hr drive to wales and just went quite
Depends weather they hydraulic or not. 1.6 16v would be hydraulic

my old 8valve used to tap with low oil so was the only reason i thought it might have been that but it also tapped when the headgasket went

They arent hydralic i dont think (although i maybe wrong) then i see where your coming from

but is only tapping as the oil is going down as wen i top it up it stops.so wot could be causing the oil to burn?
