Looking at getting myself some new front speakers so i was thinking of getting a set with some cross overs. I know the purpose of these is to split the frequencys but how exactly do they work and how do you connect them up/set them up?

Also where is the best place to mount them? And are they paticuarly worth it?

Cheers Gavin

they do it with the use of capacitors....

if you take your door handle surround off to reveal the standard tweeters you'll see the ones your current tweeters use (looks like a resistor.. either blue or yellow iirc).

i had crossovers when my front comps were amped, but when i took them out i've just robbed the standard capacitor and soldered it into the tweeters, still sounds spot on!

so i say, no... not worth it for the amount of pissing about with wiring a mounting of crossovers.

couldn't say whether or not there worth it as i've never listened to comp's with out seperate cross overs, but i assume they make them for a reason. after all it costs the manufacturer far more to make an extrenal cross over than it would to put a capacitor inline. Though aftermarket cross overs are far more complicated than just a capacitor. The ones with my rainbows are variable and have various bits and pieces in aswell as capacitors.

oh and as far as fitting them goes its easy enough to cut a slot into the arm rest on the door cards and then just bolt them inline with the slot.
