I really do feel when tuned the corsa would be a fst little thing. but its like a new age saxo, soon as there cheap there gona be everywhere just give it 2 years.
But i would defo not look at the astra either that too is the same and thats reflected in the pricing and resale.
What about a used Focus ST/RS or the newer looking Leon Cupra R's? the ones with the Brembo brakes?

the corsas are cool, so are the atras. buy whichever u want really.
depends if u want a new car or a used one really.
if i was in your position id get the corsa as i too have never had a brand new car

If I had 16K to spend on a car it wouldn't be a Corsa VXR. There's so much choice for that sort of money.

Good for you, but there's little that can be had for £16k NEW that ticks the same boxes, appart from the Clio.
Personally If I wanted a small hatch, i'd go for the Clio 197 R26. Saw one in yellow the other day on the back of a trailor and it looked immense.
N.B you can pick up a Clio/Corsa for under £14k through an online broker!

Im also thinking about one of these, either that or the new astra in irmscher spec. Had a test drive of the new astra, fair to say its awesome!
Trying to get a test drive in the corsa though is a joke!

ive had mine for three weeks now and from doing 700 miles in it id say that its alot of car for the money.
however i dont think the seats are that comfy after alot of driving and its no where near as quick as all the hype made out (but that could be the fact that my other car is a 400bhp let nova
i would like to have a go in an astra to compare but over all i love the looks of the corsa.
would i go out and buy another one given the chance? yes.

I've driven one, and it is a nice car, but not worth the money!

saw one on the way home, i didnt actually notice it, nor did it attract my look, i just happen to glance at it, i genuinely thought it was an sxi, only upon catching the site of the triangle exhaust did i spot it was the vxr.
first time iv seen one in the flesh and my opinion of its looks hasnt changed

I own a Corsa VXR and I love it as my every day car! My other car is a 280bhp Corsa GSi so the VXR obviously doesn't feel as quick, but it is great. Have driven the Corsa and an Astra VXR round Brands, the Corsa was superb. BTCC drivers also said they prefer the Corsa to the Astra for handling!

Saw both the Corsa VXR and Astra VXR at Ace cafe. I'd love the corsa with an irmy grille but the Astra would always seem the more car for the money somehow. But yet I want one
I'd say if you were defo looking into it I'd testdrive the pair and see what you find best

2) Its to much money for what is at the end of the day a 'corsa'. If you are a vauxhall nut and a VXR range fan then logically i think a nearly new Astra VXR is a much better value buy.
3) If you get one now you will be the daddy in the eyes of under 21 yr olds.
4) possibly in the future this car will have civic type aRse syndrome?
I agree but also the Astra 1.9 td sounds ace to me...if i had the money id go for the diesel and visit regal...with the difference u cud get it up to vxr spec almost and still maybe get a 27mpg figure
i think this is my plan for the future when the corsa goes to corsa heaven
corsa vxr's are in a strange market to me...like a little astra vxr but smaller...they do appear to be v.boy racer to me also...i go from liking them to hating them lol...but think they juse a confused car...bring on a nova/corsa b LET anyday and it id buy it

I have seen leasing deals for £250, you could get one on a 10,000 miles a year for 2 years, effectively you are just paying the depreciation, an option worth considering if you want a brand new car imo.

I saw another one when out in works van today, sorry just doesnt do it for me, maybe because im old.
still its an 18yr old lads wet dream imo.
I think many of the members on here have been waiting for a hot corsa for years, all they got in the meantime was the 1.8 SRi C, now this is here i think its to much money and has to much competition from other marques.

I drove one from a dealer the other day as im considering buying a new car. I think it looks good and the interior looks nice until you sit in it. I personally thought the a pillars were big and shit I couldnt seem to get a decent position from the seats.
It did handle well and pull well through all the gears though.
Im still not sure if its a car I would like to own though.
Test driving an astra at the weekend

Disagree completely. Saxos were available with free insurance, were cheaper to start with, were available as VTR if you couldn't afford a VTS, were available as special editions if you couldn't afford the VTR.
Corsa is just an expensive small car which incidentally is limited in numbers. Vauxhalls marketing indicated they are only going to build 2500 a year I think, a point which is evidence in the wait that purchasers are undergoing.
Time will tell, but I think there are reasons why what you say is incorrect.
