I've just got a new PC with XP Pro on it and i'm going to use it as a Media Centre PC in my front room. I'll never use it for games etc just playing films on and listening to music.
I've got a PC upstairs with MCE 2005 but i'm looking for an alternative for my new PC. I've had a look at lynux systems but it looks like far too much faffing around and I aint got the time to read up on it. Can anyone sugest an alternative like some front end that I can install on XP?

Yes. MCE just uses Windows Media Player in the background -- make sure you have the appropriate codec installed from www.divx.com. I play them absolutely fine...

Hmmm
I'll try again then. TBH, the machine i have as my media centre is crap. I've heard there are issues with playing videos over a LAN through MCE with a crap graphics card
I think an upgrade is needed.

also install ffdshow codec pack and it will run any video you through at it.
