Okay so my car has been idling funny the past wee while,
Its been stalling when coming up to junctions and putting the clutch down.
Sometimes the revs have been sticking a bit when driving along.
So i bought a new ICV and it got fitted today,
and now its not stalling anymore.. what it is doing is revving itself.
Sometimes when i start the car it revs itself up to like 4000 revs.
Or if im driving along itll rev itself without my touching anything.
and when i put the clutch down itll fire up to 4/5000 revs again.
Any idea what might be causing this?
Badly need to sort this out..
Cheers guys

I think this is something to do with the ECU that needs to be reset.
I'm not 100% sure but think you disconnect the battery for something like 20mins, reconnect it, you car will be dodgy for a little while until the ECU "re-teaches" itself.
Might want to get someone to double check that for you though.

yes do the ecu reset. not sure if 20 mins is long enough tho. i did mine for an hour. re-connect the battery and fire up the engine. the icv will set itself after a few seconds. its imortant that you do not touch the accelerator during this time.

The ecu ALWAYS sets the idle motor when you turn the ignition on.
Is the ecu light on when its idling high?
Sure the throttles not sticking slightly open?
To idle at 5k rpm, youd need a air leak.
I dont think the idle valve can pass enough air for 5k, even when fully open.

nope the eml isnt on.
How would i check if the throttle is sticking open?
Where abouts in the system would this air leak be do you think?

Okay so i did the ecu reset..
And it seemed to be running fine for a couple minutes then the accelerator stuck again and it was pulling by itself.
Got home and as i put the clutch in to stop the revs rose to 4k then down to 1.5/2 then back up to 4k. Did this 4 or 5 times then the EML came on which it hasnt done before..
Any ideas now that the lights on?
Cheers again guys.

my tps wire came off and the car was just really slow to respond when you put foot down. if it was me i would have the icv straight off. can you not just take it back to the garage?
