Right....at my parents house Ive no phone socket in or near my room, so wireless is probably my only option to get the internet in there.
Now with the wireless router they have (Netgear DG834GT) it doesnt seem to have ebnough range for me to pickup the wireless up there (it is a fair distance) so wondering if these wireless extenders that a few places sell actually work? Or if there is another way to get it up there?

yup the extenders do work, but if you're after a more permanent solution, get a load of network cable and go trigger happy with it. It's what i've done around my parents, it was just a little time consuming when i had to channel walls out, lay conduit etc Obvious it's a piece of piss if you have plasterboards
otherwise, you could feed a telephone extension up to your room or get BT to come out install a telephone line in your room and you can then have ADSL on that line etc.

we wont be here long enough for it to be worth spending the time and effort networking it all up. Have wanred them that the new place will be getting done properly though
Going to go upto the loft later and see whats up there to do with the phone lines, and if not fine the nearest downstairs and feed a line up that way me thinks.
