Basically, the standard speakers in a Corsa are shite as you probably know. I'm thinking of getting some 6x9's, as the ones on their own in my girlfriends car sound pretty good. They'll be on a stealth shelf for security reasons.
My headunit basically says 45w x 4.
So if I bought 350w rear speakers, would they be wasted? I know going over the top with the speakers won't make a difference, as they won't reach peak power, but I don't want to get under rated speakers and blow them up
Any advice, or even recommendations on 6x9's would be greatly appreciated

you'd struggle to blow 6x9's with a 45w head unit.
plus, just don't bother with 6x9, get some decent rear speakers and a basic sub/amp setup... doesn't cost much more but will give much better results.

a headunit supply is labelled as RMS power, but speakers are usually labbelled with Peak power, look at the RMS figures for the speakers and compare them to the Headunit

Ok
1) The headunits PEAK power is 4x45W. the actual RMS figures are somewhere around 24W.
2) You will never blow up the speakers off the headunit. they may distort due to being underpowered.
3) You idealy will need to amp them if you want to get to their full potential
Ive got some alphasonik 6x9's and a stealth shelf if your interested . Were voted best 6x9's in 2005 . Had them running off an alpine amp and they never distorted once.

I may be very interested yes, what colour is the shelf? I'm off out now, so u2u me or something.
My girlfriend's speakers never distort off her headunit - I only want a bit better quality than standard

ive got a kenwood head unit rated at 4x50 and cheap jvc 6x9s rated at 350watts and they sound great.
obviously they arent as good as a decent amped sub/speaker setup but there good enough for a budget system.
ive only noticed distortion when the volume is up stupidly loud

I put some Infinity 6x9's on a 90watt 2 channel Alpine amp in the corsa.
Sounds very well. Enough bass and enough quality.

Deano, you'd be better off amp'ing the 6x9's.
For that truely stealth look, hide the amp away in the rear quarter panel like I did in my Corsa + Ibiza, and going to do in the Clio

I know I'm better off amping but 1) Can't afford it 2) Often have a bike in the back of the car.
I'm just looking for an improvement on standard. It is hard to describe the improvement in my girlfriends car of just the speakers

Just get some decent door speakers unless you want bass iv heard a lads car with some decent door speakers sound far better then a cheap sub amp and 6x9 obviously not as bassy but quality wise awsome, plus cheap sub and amps only offer limited bass frequency any way stick with decent door speakers mate although you may need a small amp to power the door speakers depending on what power they are
