Ajax have announced they have reached an agreement with Chelsea for the release of Henk Ten Cate.
The Ajax coach has been consistently linked with a role on Chelsea manager Avram Grant's coaching staff.
Ten Cate confirmed on Sunday that Ajax were in talks with Chelsea and an agreement has now been reached.
Chelsea have been keen to bolster their coaching staff since Grant took the Stamford Bridge reins following the departure of former boss Jose Mourinho.
Ajax are now expected to release Ten Cate from his contract at the Amsterdam Arena in order to join Chelsea.
It is widely believed that Ten Cate has agreed a three-year contract with Chelsea.

*yawn* please may I remind you it's only just eight weeks into the football season...
BBC website link: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/c/chelsea/7034080.stm
I am confused as to what his exact position will be there? Coach? Assistant coach? Who knows... Steve Clarke? Rumour mill suggests he's on his way out...?

My guess is that he is there to get some experience with the players and running of the club and then come the summer they will bring in someone like Hiddink.
Will mean not a total change for the players and will also ease Hiddink into there.

Hardly an end of an era when that billionaire of ours still owns the club, he might want a shopping spree of players again who know's.

I really don't think so. And if that happens then more fool him, he can buy all the players he likes but whether they play good football together is another thing. Shevchenko is an example of this IMO- abramovich wanted him, abramovich got him to chelsea and for what?

Plus TBH I'd be amazed if anymore top players would really want to go there (other than for money) after seeing the treatment of both Shev and Ballack.

What 'treatment' Shevchenko is now shit, he's lost that yard he once had and he just can't do it any more, yes the guy has been amazing but it just won't happen now, I feel sorry for him because I really don't think he wanted to leave Milan at all, he was very loved there but what is he now, just nothing really.

What, you really don't think he's capable of splashing the cash once again........................?
He wants attractive football so got rid of Jose for a fresh start, Grant isn't a long term manager just a stop gap, may be Cate will take over in the summer then he can buy all the players he wants.

Of course he's capable you idiot, it's not like he's exactly short of funds is it you silly little e-ninja! I didn't say he wasn't capable.
At the end of the day as of the end of the 2006 financial year chelsea football club cut their losses by £60m but still lost just over £80m and hoping to barely break even by 2010. It doesn't make sence why he would let another manager just go and buy whoever just because they can because at the end of the day he is ineffect trying to run a business and make a profit. And effectively he should putting the empahasis on making it work with these players before getting bored with his toys and buying new ones
