Ive been offered a X14XE for £50, snapped timing belt so head is fucked, but I have a recently re-coned head in the shed, so i could use that. I could put it in my car for next to nothing, as I can use all the mounts/pump etc from the GSI we are splitting.
Thing is, Ill only be 17 when I come to insure it, and on my current wage, I probably could insure it, but is it really worth it on a 13 year old car?
Like most first cars, ill end up selling it after a few months.

Head needs skimmed etc, might buy it and do it over a period of time.
Better whip all the mounts off the GSI then

that's not a very expensive job though all in all. I think mine cost about £80 for the head to be skimmed + head gasket set then took a couple of hours to put together

I wouldn't bother, if the belt has snapped, it'll need new valves (possibly all 16) might have piston damage, the head could be mashed too, so you might only have a useable block. Even then, that could be scored, which would pretty much make it scrap (unless you wanted to overbore it a bit)
It'd cost you more than buying a decent, running engine I reckon.
even if you have a new head available, it could still be expensive, if it needs pistons.

Its my cousin thats got it, I sold him the C16XE out of the GSI, so hes got his X14XE spare, family rates
As far as I know, the block is fine. I have a time served mechanic as a brother too, so he can do any work it needs
