This was posted on a local forum, has been lifted from the website of a north wales paper. Most of you may have seen it already but thought I would share it with you lot just incase!

POLICE stopped more than 50 drivers, reported 20 of them and seized a high-performance sports car in a single night as part of a new crackdown on street racers.
Operation Gerano has been launched to tackle the ongoing problem of speeding racers plaguing Deeside Industrial Estate.

Leading up to Sunday night's operation in the Zone 4 area around Weighbridge Road, Deeside Inspector Darren Wareing has been working closely with the Roads Policing Unit led by Sgt Best and community beat managers PC Jason Gunn and PC Stefan Lederle.

Insp Wareing said: "The first phase included gathering video evidence of those illegally racing on the highway. This was very successful and allowed us to easily identify the vehicles involved."

Officers disrupted a gathering of 70 vehicles and stopped more than 50 of them on their way out of the park, and reported 20 drivers for serious offences.

Insp Wareing said: "About 20 motorists were reported or were issued tickets for offences including street racing, careless driving, having no insurance, illegal tyres, illegal lighting, and illegally tinted windows.

"Some of them were just given warnings because we had so many backed up, and I had to choose the worst ones. I would say that 40 per cent of the ones we stopped had discrepancies.

"It was a successful evening. I spoke with the drivers personally and said we don't want to spoil their fun – if someone wants to look at someone else's car sensibly I don't have a problem with that.

"But I do have a problem with dangerous driving and I'm worried someone's going to get seriously hurt. That's why we've invested so much time and money
to tackle it."

Insp Wareing said that as well as disrupting meetings, officers are using a range of evidence-gathering tactics and are working with Flintshire Council to use road engineering to make the roads less of a magnet for such driving.

He has recently invested in an Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system for officers to use at the site and they have just been trained to use a laser speed detection device which will be delivered on Monday.

"I expressed to as many people as I could who were there on Sunday that other officers and I are genuinely concerned for the safety of people attending such events," he said.

"I would also like to reiterate that the community of Deeside does not wish to accept this sort of behaviour and I will work with them to put a stop to it.

"For those who attended who were racing but were not stopped by us – watch out for the post!"

Well Done. It's a great pity the same could not be done on Flint foreshore which is plagued by illegal motorbikes. They tear up paths used by walkers. Sundays are racing days the bikes come from far and wide , on trailers and in vans. Sitting Ducks I would say but they still come. Can we have a similar raid in Flint? Success has it's own rewards as you have just proved.

This portrays people who were attending this "swoop" in a bad light. Brilliant attitude from the police statiing he has no problem with admiring each others cars, which people do. Personally i see it as people whom attend such things are out of the way and no where near a housing estate. If they were driving fast past your front door i could imagine a pile of complaints and worries for kids etc. But near the zone 4 area, there is no such place within a substantial space surrounding it. If people worked together instead of against then i think this would be more beneficial to all people concerned such as local residents, police force, council workers, and the people attending. Thanks, Karlie
