The V12s are apparently capable of 200mph unrestricted.

The 850CSi is the one to have, it was built by the M division

Interesting:

BMW M8 Prototype
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The BMW M8 is the full power version of the BMW 850CSi. BMW only produced one prototype of this high power vehicle in 1990.[citation needed] The prototype featured the first version S70 engine, which has evolved in to the power plant for the McLaren F1. The S70 engine is a 48 valve V12, featuring 550 horse power in the M8 prototype. The car was designed to be a Ferrari killer.[citation needed] However, it was never produced due to low market demand. The only prototype is currently locked away in the Giftschrank (poison storage) and is slated to be destroyed as there is no longer a BMW 8 series.

The car will not be displayed in the BMW museum because of its rough body work, and the lack of even basic amenities (such as headlights or a finished interior).

Quite insurable too I thought about it when I was looking last time, £5k for an 840, and about 1000 for insurance is a tempting prospect.

YEah its torquey, but still slow.

As mentioned, 850 is a great car. A realy 180+mph when un-restricted. Theres a few vids on youtube/google of some guy taking his standard 850 up to 170+mph.

Big cars, big vaule, very under-estimated. I predict this car in 20-30 years time to be of quite high value. Prices will start to go up as they get older.

I like them, old, square, powerful, comfy, relaxed, refined, but still goes some....
