'If Gerrard is so keen to stop young Englishmen being blocked by mediocre foreign talent, the first thing he should do is burst into boss Rafael Benitez's office on Friday and warn him off bringing in any more of the imported also-rans he has inflicted on Anfield in recent times.'

Yeah, lets just blame it on this. I mean that way we can detract from the fact that the English players we had playing all played shite, and the boss that the FA put in charge was utter bollocks.

I think all this foreign shit is just that, shit. If OUR young players are good enough they will be playing 1st team football end of. Playing against top foreign players week in week out will only help develop them, would we rather have an inferior league with loads of average players to choose from?. The national side needs a decent, organised manager who can get the best out of, lets be honest, a pretty good squad who have the talent to do well. I can't see how having a high quota of imports is really the problem!

I don't think its the issue over the quality we have - we have some top class players in the squad, albeit most were missing on Wednesday night.

There are good players coming through too, that article mentions most of them so it isn't all doom and gloom. We really do just need a top class manager IMO.

If people are blaming it on foreigners then why were still shit 20 years ago before they all came over? lol If anything i believe foreign players in our league have improved the English players and the English game. What we need is some of our own English talent to play abroad and brought up in a foreign teams i.e Hargreaves

on paper I think England have one of the strongest teams in the world. It's just when they actually try to play football it goes Pete Tong!

Not really, as for one he isnt an England regular, so hardly proof that being abroad is any better for you. And two he isnt even English.

He is an England regular - did u watch the World Cup? he missed the Austria game through injury and was only called up to the squad not being 100% fit - plus Mclaren bums Lamplard aswell - hed have done a far better job than fcuking Gareth Barry anyway!! Hargreaves was the only player in the WC to come home with a bit respect in tact - any player that Sir Alex justifies spending £18m is a good player IMO.
He plays for England i cudnt careless where he was born

He isnt really a regular. Probably should be, bust isnt yet. And better than Barry? Poor sod started 3 intl matches alongside Gerrard and was MOTM for two!!

Im only joking anyway, he isnt a bad example, but I see no reason for English players to go abroad when the set ups we have here are known to be much better run and better facilities than other countries.

All im saying is its a method that hasnt been tried yet - perhaps should be as whatever we have tried so far is obviously not working

Hargreaves was just an example as hes the only one!!!!

I just dont see how it will benefit anyone to send English players, who you want playing in an English way, for England...to go and play in Spain, or Germany
