the above would work, i did it on a computer yesterday and i've had 5 people connected to a different terminal sessions on a xp machine.

i'll try to explain,

you dont want to remote desktop as this takes the screen away from the remote and brings it to you.

with the link i posted it makes an xp machine possible to have multiple connections to it with out disturbing the local machine. terminal sessions, to you then rdc it and disable the device's via device manager or a batch file.

But I fail to see how it would help me lock out keyboards on our client machines?

you then rdc the client machines, but the client machines will not know any different that you are connecting.

I see what you mean and thanks very much, but ideally I just wanted a way to lock out 17 classroom computer with a click on the main teacher computer.

devcon.exe [-r] [-m:\\<machine>] <command> [<arg>...]
-r if specified will reboot machine after command is complete, if needed.
<machine> is name of target machine.
<arg>... is one or more arguments if required by command.
For help on a specific command, type: devcon.exe help <command>

You can disable device by hardware id

Cant disable mouse (no inbuilt function to disable mouse) and removing it means reboot
