Right. Went out 2night with my digi cam and a tripod to try and get some noght shots.
Now basically i want some advice
These pictures arent great, and i want to get better at this sort of thing . I set the camera to the "night scene" setting and turned the flash off and let the cemera do the rest. Would it be more benificial to set the settings manually? (my options are limited though as its not a very expensive camera)
The pictures also look grainy and a tad blurey when i uploaded them to my computer. Why is this?
Also why does everything look the same colour. Is that just the type of light in the car park?
Now these are nowhere as good as Hoddo's . And i just want some tips and hinters as to where i can improve on things like this.
P.s. sorry the car is so dirty

most of the battle is hardware your using, well camera.
Most point and shoots have limited ISO's etc. and the Fstops are pretty limited too.
There is potential in the photo's you've taken, and I think they actually work quite well, they could be edited in photoshop to look less orange.
I dont your doing anything wrong as regards to your photography, but most modes are automated on regular point and shoots so you'll be hard pressed to get any better results without changing camera.

thats what i thought .
Tbh the manual settings are VERY limited
I found that i could get a much better composition using a tripod than just pointing and shooting

obviously your slightly limited with that you can do purely because its a jpeg not a raw file.
I'm pretty clued up when it comes to photo editing / manipulation. Used Photoshop back when photoshop 6 came out, meaning I've used it since I was a kid.

cheers for that, that looks pretty funky. I do have Photoshop CS2 but tbh i have no idea where to start with it
tbh i would like advice on how to do thing like that or just touch up photo's realisitcally. But i would like to take decent pics first and foremost
Can i ask what the difference between and jpeg and raw file are and why im limited with the former?
those ps's do look cool though

My A-level IT knowledge
Jpegs tend to distort more when using them in PS. Raw picture file will be much more editable.
May be wrong

A RAW files keeps all the data from the original photo, a jpeg is a compressed file which discards alot of the data.
The reason your photos are all yellow is because you set up the white balance wrong.
Also stop taking shots a stupid angles

Its also difficult when your shooting in areas where the lights are actually giving of yellow light.

ok i find that setting the cam up on the tripod then using a high shutter speed on the shutter priority setting
needs to be on a tripod and perfectly still, high shutter speeds let in more light. switch on ur interior light aslwell for added light inside teh car and will generaly brighten up the pic, if need be get some1 to tag along and get them to sit at certain angles with there lights on/sidelights so it gives extra light to the car.
u could try taking pics in a carpark which have white or blue tint lights to get shot of the orangy effect u get.
just ideas

tripod, long shutter speed, change settings and snap loads of pictures - one will turn out.
Tip - never try and take the perfect picture everytime, you wont and will never have all great pictures.
