hay all ok i got a bit of a problem, as the title suggests, me cars been using fuel at one hell of a rate of knots and lastnight took the bisket. 132 miles to a full tank, normaly the car will noly use 2 notches on the fuel gague, but it gets tempremental,

seems to happen when going down the motorway, one minuit the throttle peddal feels all spongy... (cable operated throttle so how can it feel spongy??) and the car has little to no get up and go, will not go over 90mph, but 5 miles down the road, the throttle peddal will get stiff and all of a sudden you can find yourself doing 120mph if you want to... its only when the peddal is spongy that the fuel consuption is a problem,

but its pissing me off.. cars got a x14xe engine, with full exhaust (manifold and sport cat aswell) and just a de restricted air box with piper panel filter.

anyone got any ideas??

Rubbish spark
Coolant temp sensor
AFM
TPS
IACV

Thats what springs to my mind when it comes to a over fueling issue.

it happens at speed aswell as when you are stationary... when it isnt running right/ no power it tryed to cut out when you pull away and wont rev up quick, same simptoms with the throttle goes all soft and spongy like and when its running right its able to keep up with my mates zetec s. and its annoying as its intermitent... one day fine then next it plays up then its ok for a few days then goes all tits up again.

My first to try would be the CTS.

I had almost the same symptoms, and took hours to change the ICV, and the symptoms carried on.

Then I changed the CTS (part was £13 from Vauxhall) which took about 4 minutes, and it all worked great again!

to use that much fuel it would be smoking very badly.

checked for leaks? if theres a leak on the pressure side of the fuel system it will cause all of the problems you have mentioned.

it isnt leaking at all, would smell it and i cant smell fuel other than the unburnt comming out the exhaust, if it was leaking this would be happening all the time and it's not which is agravating.

the symptons sound like the cts, try that and check your spark plugs, if its over fueling they will more than likely need replacing or cleaning up,

You mean whats the CTS? its the coolant temperature sensor, when its had it, the ECU can think the engine is about -20 and therefore richen it right up
