Depends on various things mate, sometimes i dont ache at all, sometimes i ache for a couple of days.
It's called DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness)

Don't judge progression on DOMS.
Try stretching after your training session, i find this helps.

im not too clued up on the names of my back excercises
the gym I use has a cable machine you pull towards you, I use that for warm up
then do lat pull downs but with the bar that has your hands facing each other, I feel I can squeeze my back together tighter with that bar
then narrow grip pull downs
one arm dumbell rows
3 sets of 10 on the T-Bar
seated rows
then maybe a few pull ups
All the above are for 3 sets of 10, Im training primarily now for size because I could do with bulking up a bit
is the obvious option to drop to 3 sets of 6 - 8?

Deadlifts are my favourite movement. Deadlifts even make my traps grow more than direct trap work (ie shrugs)
Very good for core strength and just a powerful movement in general. Great for back thickness.

lol
deads are mainly a lower back workout (even though they hit other areas)
if they make your traps grow better than shrugs, your either deadlifting wrong or shrugging wrong tbh...
SLDL's are awesome for lower back and hammys, but sooo easy to kill your spine.
i once saw a skinny lad in the gym try and sldl 3 plates, got it up, wobbled, twisted his knee and fell hard...

I have a day of rest inbetween each ession. Usually I'm fine come my next gym visit, but sometimes I still feel the effects from the previous visit. It all depends on how much I push myself, sometimes I stick to my routine and others I try a heavier weight which is a few steps above what I'm currently lifting so I feel that for a few days.

You said yourself they hit other areas's, then tell me i'm doing something wrong when i say they make my traps grow. I haven't done shrugs for a while, my traps are growing just fine. Im guessing i know my body better than you do.
TBH.
