got pulled over last nite and was told that my car had no current keeper, my insurance, MOT etc all checked out fine though. so when i got home, i had a look for my V5 then realised i only had the wee slip off the V5 you get when u first buy a car, which is only valid for 6 weeks now i have to hand in my v5 along with my insurance certificate within 7 days. what happens if i dont get my V5 sent out to me within 7 days???

You wont get a new V5C in 7 days, have to get in touch with dvla and see whats happened to the original which should have been sent out when you notified them of owner change

ring the dvla first, see what they say and then let the police know, doesnt seem you've done anything illegal, see if you can get some sort of proof from dvla, letter explaining etc and give that along with that slip you have to the police

if a car has no current owner/keeper then you would not be able to get permission from the owner to drive it meaning you were driving it illegally i would assume?

could be wrong.

I think it has to have an owner for tax purposes - probably cos if its not taxed the dvla will want to fine someone!lol

The keeper of the car is responsible for it. Tax reminders, N.I.Ps etc come to the keeper. No keeper means there's no-one responsible for the vehicle, and that's a problem for the Police & DVLA.

Because what if it gets stolen or your caught speeding, what do they do? They read the reg plate back, and get your details from there and come knocking on your door or send you letters etc

If your a registerd/insured trader then thats different
