Physical is the actual stuff you buy.

Use CPU-Z or crucial.com online check thing to find out how many free slots you have and what you need to buy to fill them.

If you just want to free up memory there might be other things you can do - you got much stuff running in the background? How many processes?

Both slots in use so 42 quid to take it to a 1Gb (two 512s)

Use less by cleaning up the system, remove programs that are running in the background, make sure you have no spyware/virus or in extreme cases reinstall Windows.
