Can anyone tell me what the best grade of oil is when running a 2.0 8V engine (130 bhp version). At min i opted for 10/40.
Also, is it better to run a slightly higher grade so it doesnt thin out as much or is that bollox????

just use 10/40 mate and change wen due

running a more viscous oil can sometimes stop oil gettin to the tight areas in the engine, and plus it clogs up breathers more

Thats not what he asked.

10w40 is fine unless you are using the car for rally/competition where engine temps are much higher. Then a higher spec is needed that wont thin out at high temps. My millers 5w40 is fine at 150 degrees C, but GM 10/40 would loose lubrication at this temp.

5W40 is better than 10W40 and synthetic is better than semi synthetic. Its up to you how much you would want to spend.

Castrol is ok but anything that says synthetic blend (like the magnatec) is really just a semi synthetic worded differently

Unless your tappets are noisey when cold that is, then 10W40 should keep them a little quieter

ok then. 5W40 is the same thickness as 10w40 when its up to temperature but 5w40 will flow better on cold starts than the 10w40

Thinner oil will also piss out of every seal gap on older engines.

I would stick with 10/40 for a 2.0 8v.
