Looking at upgrading my Pc monitor to a widescreen. Howver do I need to upgrade my standard graphics card as I don't want a stretched picture?

What graphics card have you got?
All you have to do is change your resolution to a widescreen one.
Most will manage at least 1440x900

You will need a modern card or at least driver to get a full 16:10 picture. Saying that an older cards with a driver updates might be possible.
