Do HD boxes have to be constantly connected to phone lines or is it just for installation and software updates?
Reason being, i'm having Sky HD installed this week. Our phone socket is opposite side of lounge to the tv and where the sky box will be. So ideally I just want to run a cable accross for installation and then disconnect it after, to save having to run a cable round the room.

Its part of the contract tht it has to be permanently connected, im not sure what happens if you do disconnect it though.

I paid a £25 'manual enablement' fee when I had my Sky connected as we don't have phone line in the house.
Doesn't make any difference to the box, just means we don't receive updates. Thats on a standard bo though but I imagine it would be the same for a HD box

After 6 weeks you will get a letter saying plug it back in or they will terminate the service.
Im an employee and this happened to me
Its a breach of contract, the line needs to be there to do daily updates and for box office stuff.

When we had Sky, it only had to be plugged in for the first 12 months, but after that you could unplug it. We left it plugged in for Box Office etc though.
