well i have my pc going into a router which is wired, ive plugged a network cable into the other plug and then into my 360
my 360 cant connect to live and when i do the connection test on the 360 it fails at the ip address
the connection on my pc says its limited or no connection, i tried right clicking and repairing but it says windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed: Renewing IP Address

first thing to try is turn off your router, then turn it back on again. then try connecting again

Was the router bought new? Sounds like DHCP isnt running on it.

so, your pc has 2 network cards? you'll need to share the network card that has the cable going to the router to allow other computers to connect through it, then give the network card that links to the 360 a static IP address

the terminology will differ slightly depending on operation system.
go to control panel
network connections
you'll get your two connections.
right click on your first one and go to properties
click the sharing tab at the top of the properties window tick the "allow other network users to connect through this computer's internet connection" then click ok
then on your second one right click it and go to properties again. you'll see a box in the middle of the screen, click the internet protocol (TCP/IP) and hit properties.
you'll get another window that looks like this:
enter the numbers as shown there. click okay.
then try it again
although, if your computer itself won't get an IP address you may be having issues with your router, as richie said with DHCP not working. if you want to run the 360 online the way you said, you'll need to do the above as well as sorting your computer out
i don't know how to guide you on the BT home hubs as i've never used one, so i'll reserve that for someone that knows what they're talking about!
