I have the lead to connect it to the computer but it has a red label on it to says
DO NOT PLUG THIS DEVICE INTO YOUR PC UNTIL ALL INSTALLATION STEPS HAVE BEEN PERFORMED.
what bloody steps? there is nothing in the user guide, but it does mention needing a PC Studio Users guide and there is nothing else in the box??

As Munchie said, you should have got a cd with the phone.
If not, download the PC studio:
http://uk.samsungmobile.com/supports/softwaremanuals/pcStudio31.do
Plug the cable in and if prompted to install any usb or modem drivers then they should be on the cd.

yeah had no cd, its a samsung E740.
