Steve - RB26's suffer from oil starvation, and heat. Having a larger baffled sump will prevent the starvation by always keeping a decent amount of oil in the sump. As standard the is no lateral baffles and a lot of the oil will be circulating the engine leaving the sump prone to sloshing about and the pickup finding nothing but air.
The larger sump will also help cooling to a degree..... i wouldnt fit it for that though.
Our old one just had baffle plates/doors put into the standard sump.
