'Dream Team' vision for Stags bid
A man bidding to buy Mansfield Town is planning to rename the club Harchester United after the former Sky series The Dream Team, the BBC has learnt.
John Batchelor, former owner of York City, submitted a bid to majority shareholder Keith Haslam on Wednesday.
Producers of the Sky series confirmed Mr Batchelor had made an approach to use the name.
It is understood the racing car enthusiast also plans to use actors from the television series at the club.
Crucial match
Mr Batchelor said: "Football supporters in general have to understand that if they want professional football in their town, they have to accept it has to be done on a commercial basis.
"Harchester is more promotable than Mansfield. That's not any form of insult to Mansfield at all because it's a club with a long tradition but it's just a fact of life.
"One club has been on the television for 10 years and the other one hasn't."
The businessman changed York City's name to York City Soccer Club when he was at Bootham Crescent to attract American interest.
Mansfield are currently second from bottom in the Football League.
Mr Batchelor was initially part of a consortium before deciding to bid for the struggling League Two club on his own.
The club has undergone a name change once before - from Mansfield Wesleyans to Mansfield Town in 1910.
The Stags play Notts County in a crucial local derby at Meadow Lane on Saturday.

The cunt bought our club for a £1. He tore up the 25 year lease on our ground meaning Persimmon could come in a buy the land.
He promised us a new stadium, promotion in America (hence changing our name and embarrassing the club by naming us York City Soccer Club )
He also decided to try link us in to his racing team, and we had fucking chequered flags on the sleeve of our shirts.
The guy is the biggest dreamer is football since the guys who said they were going to build a million seater stadium over the M1 with a F1 track going in between the seats for Luton 
He had no money, fuck all. He gave away our only asset and beside Douglas Craig is one of the reason we are in such a mess right now.
The supporters stepped in after he took us into administration and bought the club off him. The walked away with a big profit. He's a fucking cunt who shouldn't be let near another business never mind a football club.
I feel sorry for Mansfield, as for naming them Harchester united hahahahahahahahahahaha, fucking bellend.
Whats more laughable is the F.A do FA to stop this shit happening. It is an absoloute joke

Big topic of discussion on the YCFC board atm. Notice how he made £120,000 out of us in 18 months. Great, thanks for that mate, what did you give us back? Well we now have no assets, massive debt and have to be out of our ground by 2012 which isnt looking like its going to happen.
