we did a vectra-c.co.uk RR day recently and the tuning boxes were working very well. however some are shockingly bad and only adjust fuelling and not boost.

seems very hit and miss. Also depends on the value you hold in your car, would you really want to fit a £70 box off ebay on a car worth 6k?

a customer recently tried 'remapping' his mini cooper S using ebay software and a lead into his diagnostic port, cost him £ 1700 to repair all of the damage it caused to the ecu and various engine parts.

is it the 2007 2.0 bmw?

was speaking to someone yesterday about these ecu's, they run on EDC17 which is a tricky one to get into, wont be long until its possible. However there are some good piggyback systems available I have been told.

Yes I have heard 2 different things

The new versions are p[roving difficult to remap and the 335i and 335D are going to be replace the existiong ECU's with the new ones

Therefore remaps are going to very expensive if they manage to do it or tuning boxes are the only method

I like the idea of a tuning box as I can take it off when it goes in for a service as i believe flashing of ECU's is becoming a standard function in s service thus removing the remap without them knowing

the only other big downside to tuning boxes is they do sometimes give gains but they tend to not hold the power for long, most of the cars I have had on the dyno with tuning boxes have gained power but it quickly drops off as the fuelling goes very lean once the engine hits peak boost. I will see if I have any graphs saved.
