is it any good?? just bin looking at them and they are the cheapest slr i have seen.
looking to spend about 350ish, so not expecting much choice want new not second hand.
how expensive are better lenses/ extra bits likely to be?

D40 is a decent camera. Don't expect to be getting any great extra bits on a tight budget though.

Photography aint cheap but it depends how far you want to get into it.

somebody posted a link to the 400d recently and it was about 350, was much cheaper than I thought.

My 350D cost 500 a couple of years ago.

tesco sell the 350 for £350 cheapest iv seen the 400 is 400 though.

jj: yeh i know it isnt cheap may just leave it all together and stick with what iv got

400d with kit lens is £385 on Amazon and they are running a £45 cashback offer at the moment (you send a copy of the reciept to Canon and they send you a cheque for £45 back

If you are on a budget then get the D40 with the kit 18-55 lens. The Canon 400d is good but the kit lens is a dog.

To upgrade lenses and keep to Nikon/Canon you'll need deep pockets, althouth the Tamron 17-50 2.8 is a fantastic lens for £280.

It's a very expensive game if you get hooked.

Canon kit lens is not a dog at all, the only people who blame bad pictures on it are bad photographers.

If you want nikon, save a little more and get a second hand d40x. Or even more and a d60
