Anything free is like that. Played Live for Speed online a few times (subscription driving simulator) and everyone is pretty much normal.
Get what you pay for etc etc.

There are alot of w***ers that game online, ps3 and 360 is worse because there is not much in terms of admin functions to ban players for good.
Maybe if the community grows all games will have proper dedicated servers with admins.

That's because console online gaming is so immature compared to PC...
As apk said, Live for speed on PC (s2 paid up version) has quite a sensible mature audience and most people give way or they get banned permantly for deliberate crashing...
Sadly Online Console gaming is still in the early stages, so it's more aimed at a 'pick up and play market' - rather than 'I'm gonna come back to the same server every night because I know it's a good crowd' ... plus in the games i've played the lag is still too evident with cars jumping around and finally you just get general twats who can't actually drive playing and the only way they can gain positions is by hitting other people
By next gen consoles I reckon console online gaming will be considerably improved, just like it has developed on PC over the last 10 years or so.

The online on MOH is fairly smooth, just the battles aren't very long and people just shoot everything in sight.
The jerkyness of cars is pretty evident though!

Also Robbo - I find the attraction on playing online is it's real people against each other, rather than against some programmed AI.
AI = boring, predictable, repetitive etc...
Humans = Will adapt to situation / tactics, and may surprise you with using a unique style or whatever.
as I say, LFS on PC on the paid up servers truely does show a test of skill rather than smashing people up and obviously since you're beating real people (that you'll often come across again next time you play) you gain real respect for your achievements rather than just going 'yes i beat the computer'. I personally find often for anything less than a quick pick up and play session, it boring and unrewarding playing against computer opponents.
Also you only find the true pace you are going at in say a racing game when you get online and see what pace everyone else is doing.

To be fair, I think anything people are paying their hard earned for (like LFS where the main part of it is about racing online). Also, its not the sort of game 'everyone' can get their hands on - being a relatively small title has a lot of benefits.

yeh exactly apk - you'll only find people who A ) are dedicated to taking it seriously and B ) have shelled out on a wheel / game - playing LFS online in s2 paid version.
Where as Xbox 360 / Ps3 is just anyone picking it up and most using pads, which means less precise control too when two cars are near each other i suppose.
