what camera / lense did you use? they are ace, did you use multi capture at all?

Nikon D200 and 18-200mm VR Lense @ f5.6 + Circular Polariser. Dialed in about -0.3 stops of exp too.
I took about 180 photos, some were on Motordrive, but the results were touch and go. I wasnt going all out for captures but these were some of the better ones.

being realistic can I take pics like that on a Fuji S6500? what shutter speed was it about, in good light mine goes to 1/4000

That'll be a longer shuter speed, you pan the camera round following the car to keep the car in focus and the background blurred.

Go for about 1/250 as a starting point. Maybe 1/300 if you want it a bit easier.
Can go as low as about 1/80, but to make it easier you need a fast car (like F3 type) and a VERY smooth panning action.

Your talking around 1/125th at f5.6 - ND Filters should help you get the correct shutter speed if its too bright - expect to get about 10 useable pics from 200 photos though.

I tripod will help you pan if you don't screw it up tight, give you a firm base with no vertical movement.

i was supposed to be going donnington last weekend for some race day was really hoping i was but missus had to work and she couldnt get tickets so couldnt go

I think that's where I've been stuggling with most of the ones I've tried, gear changes end up with me overtaking em, or them overtaking me and they end up either driving in or out of shot. I need a lot more practice

Bit more practise will help.
Try not to get things coming out of a corner where the car is speeding up or slowing down to start with - the last 3/4 of a straight is a good starting point.
Also, twist with your body, not your arms - if you can try and keep your shoulders square on with the car

As some have said, practice is always the way forward. Even if you dont intend on using the pics just keep shooting and shooting at the cars as they go round, you'll find you 'hit' ratio goes up after a while.
Panning is hard to grasp at first but when you've got it, its hard to lose, it becomes more natural. I find that getting your car in frame way before it gets to you helps a lot and always follow the car right through even after youve taken your shot. I also find that the battery grip adds extra balance to the camera, especially using the 17-200mm VR coz its quite heavy.
Hoddo - These werent sharpened afterwards - I didnt even think about it to be honest, then after I posted them up on here I tried it and it just added noise.
