I've got a new laptop, transferred some files over, but i want to password protect the folders, how do i do it?
The laptop requires a password to start up, but i sometimes leave it on, and i my little brother will snoop through, and i have some files i don't want him seeing.. (before anyone says, its not porn, business stuff, phone numbers in letters etc..)

Just create different user accounts for you and your bro and make the folders private.

When you walk away from the laptop, press the Windows key and L together, locks the computer so you have to put a password in to use it again.

No point making them hidden. If he has a brain cell he would find them if he wanted.
What you hiding? gay porn?
Simplest way is to create whatever folders and put them in your 'my documents'. Only your account can access that folder.

Ah well, yeah, the best way is to lock it when you walk away. It becomes habbit after a while, trust me.

You can make any folder/file hidden. Right click and click "hidden" That doesn't stop people accessing it tho.
Pretty sure you can't password individual files that'll give a prompt without using 3rd party software.

Never noticed tbh. You sure the status bar isn't turned off? I'm gonna look tonight, only got vista at home.
Got all your porn stored in there?
Easiest answer..
Tools > Folder options > View > Show hidden files
F3 for search (hidden files & subfolders) > *.jpg & *.avi
