dont know whether it happened on my old engines but this latest one seems to get hot quick when sitting still

it never overheats just gets to about 98 really fast

when driving its about 91 then after about 2 mins of sitting its 98

is it normal or what?

Sounds pretty normal, is the fan kicking in alright and stopping it going too hot?

head gaskets gone

or thermostat stuck closed, or water pump fins broken (unlikely)

means nothing, fan stops it over heating for when in traffic

no other signs of head gasket failure
i might spend £40 on a new thermostat

mine does the same. my old sport never heated up as quick as this one

wont be the stat if the fan is cooling it down if the stat was closed then the water in the radiator being cooled wouldn't circulate into the engine,

thats true if the fan kicks in the rad is hot and the stat is open, as the sensor is in the rad for the fan,

run a compression test, if that seems ok then leave it.

only thing else i can think of is the engine has had a headgasket in the past and it has been skimmed raising compression and making it run hotter
