Tried vista a few times - like the looks of it but it doesn't seem as quick and like to nab all of your resources for no reason.

Use OSX or XP (currently XP64)....don't have problems with either

Vista does use all the resources, why should it not, there is no point in memory sitting doing nothing, as soon as something else wants it it'll give it up.

I specced my PC up so it has all the resources Vista needs to waste. Works fine now I have all the wierd issues I had a while back sorted out.

If I cared about wasting resources I would run a UNIX machine by the command prompt and not even use a GUI.

You must do because we got a new laptop recently that had vista and came with 512mb of RAM. It barely worked so the first thing I did was upgrade it's memory...

Vista for MediaCenter (much nicer than XP MediaCenter) and laptop, Solaris for server, Debian for desktop...

Stick with Windows for a laptop IMO. It's a pain in the arse to get all the power saving features working under Linux (nVidia SmartDimmer support was crap last time I played).

Vista hasn't died once on me since I bought the laptop last May.

My XP desktop however randomly restarts leaving me with 15 minutes of lost work
