I'm a member of a volunteer organization were we have a few computers for staff use. However certain people are using it for websites that aren’t related to what we do. Normally I hate stuff like this being blocked does my head in at work etc but people are losing out due to the certain few constantly using the internet and denying people the use of the computer who need it for a genuine reason.
I’ve been asked to block certain websites off the computer. I’ve googled this and tried using the host file way like many websites suggest however I can’t get it to work.
How am I best to attack this? Is there any software out there that I can use? It’s only on the normal user account that it needs blocking from ideally and would be controlled from the admin account on the workstation (there only 2).

do you use a router for internet access? If so what make & model. Some have website blocking features built in like netgears. seems a bit much to go the whole way and get a firewall for 2 pcs

Post your hosts file if that isn't working.
Is talking to the staff not possible?

Something like this looks ideal.
Looking at this website can this just be installed on a single PC, not 100% sure how a DNS setup like this will work.

To be honest I agree with what you saying, however they have all been warned on quite a few occasions. However its not my decision I'm just trying to do what I've been asked tbh

you dont need to install anything for opendns, just set the router to use the 2 opendns servers, then from your account you can block whatever from your connection

Yea log into your router (if you know the specific user name & password) from there you can block websites etc...
