how do you wire 2 batteries up? so they both charge etc, i need 1 4 driving and a nother 1 for amps etc

simple brigde the live to the other + on battry and earth the - the chassis cut some battrey terminals off a car from scrappy as well.

thats what i thought about just wiring the battery like that rikkgti, but what is this split charging stuff?

If you connect them like that they will both charge but will both drain when you turn the engine off and leave the stereo on.

A split charge system will send power to the battery used on your amps while the engine is running to charge it, but when you turn the engine off you will only flatten the battery used for your amps so you can still start the car if you get carried away

You need to buy what is basically a relay which cuts the link between the amp battery and the starter battery when the ignition is switched off. Depending on the spec of your alternator/batteries/install you need to see which size you need:

I used to be into audio in a big way a few years ago and its worth joining on talkaudio, plenty of good advice avaliable on there.

Still have a 1600W RMS sub in the spare room if I can tempt you?

you have to buy a split charge system mate, unless someone knows how to make one?????

It looks like a relay connected to a switched live.

If you could find a suitable relay cheaper it would do the same job.

by the way whats the difference between the 2 examples from luke85?
its a standard 55a altenator offa 1.2 16v if you need to know
also isit any recomendations on a second battery? ive got a VARTA B18 at the moment? shall i try and get the same one again? ill run the car and amps off 1 batt and all lights and subs off the second
