yeh i personally can't see what the big deal is...
8.1 mega pixel camera - but won't be as good as a normal digital camera.
GPS / Maps... ? ooooold news in phones.
What's so great about it?

it will be a non symbian/windows operating system so will be a "closed" phone, no apps to be added to customize it. Sony's web browser is about the worst availible on any phone, the latest efforts from sony have been slow, and lacking in any imagination.
Plus when will they stop marketing music phones and camera phones. Customers want both.
Its not going to be big which is great, but as you said paul, it will have a tiny lens so no where near as good as a digi cam.
its also widely regarded that the k800i/k810i with 3.2mp camera's were actually better than the c902/k850 in terms of camera performance

Having "upgraded" from one to the other I'd definitely agree. The camera in my k850i is a joke compaired to my older k800i.

Ive never had any problems with my SE K810i But have heard a lot of ppl moaning that there SE's break regularly.
Is the N96 going to be a good choice? Or is there anything to look forward to coming out in the new year?

Thats a crazy camera!
Hope it doesn't have the same lighting problems that the 850i does

tbh theres alot of crap talked about "faulty" phones.
Sonys since the w880i are alot worse, never used to have any problems other than the infamous joysticks.
N96 looks ok, but is similar spec to the n95 8gb.
Not much of a leap forward IMO but i will reserve proper judgement when i actually play with one.
