And have you tried going through Add Remove programs and taking off anything you have blindly installed by accident?

Well, I did a full scan with AVG which found some trojans and removed them. But I'm still having problems, namely that Facebook and Google searches just won't work, in either Firefox or IE.
Also, the Microsoft Security Centre thinks my Automatic Updates aren't turned on, even when they are.
Oh and everything is fine in Safe Mode.

Ctrl - Alt - Delete -> Task manager. Then start closing off processes for programs that you know about, then the ones you don't and keep testing to see if you've fixed the problem.
OR
Run then type msconfig and then select the startup programs tab. Don't allow any unknown programs to start when Windows starts, in fact, you can gain efficiency on startup by preventing pointless things starting on startup...

Yea, nearly every program program I have installed on my PC seems to think it's a good idea to check for updates just when I have turned the computer on. I disagree so I have fucked everything off to keep things fast.

No such luck. It isn't running as a process. Yet I know it's still here, because every time I open Firefox 3 more open with adverts, and the warning that my Windows Automatic Updates aren't turned on, won't go away.

Format and be done with it, if you had done it in the first place you would be back to normal again by now
