My budget is £750, please dont suggest anything else even if its £10 more. Do however suggest alternatives in the price range if you think they would be better.
This first one is also available as 556P shown in pic, 557P,559P (does anyone know if they are the same TV but just different styles or is one actually better then the other)
The 2nd one is more expensive but is 100Hz and has 50000 contrast, not sure if thats a major thing to look out for. I have read some reviews on it and alot of them say that the sound is not that great on it aswell.
(would this be the case with the cheaper first option aswell though)

Got the first one for £600 a while back, can't fault it, only thing is i do notice a bit of lag between audio and picture, think that's to do with the digital signal though.
Nice tv, can't complain too much, i loves it

Do Samsung lie about the contrast then.
1 - Im tempted by the second one as its got 100Hz, which could come in handy later on or is it not that important.
The red around the edge looks alot darker in the flesh then in that picture.
2 - Barnshaw, that LG one you pointed out, im no expert but that one says it only has 15000 contrast, that seems alot lower then the Samsung stats also its not 100Hz so would it not be better to pay the extra £40 for a TV with that.
(Im sure you know more then me though)
3 - Are Samsung and LG a good pick for this price range aswell.
4 - getting back to the original post, the 556P, 557P, and 559P are they the same TV but in different styles.

i have found samsung do exgerate thier figures slightly but im very happy with mine.
The most important thing im led to believe about LCD/Plasma's is the contrast ratio the higher the ratio the better the picture. Brigthness is also usefull if you watch tele in a bright room, then a high brigthness ratio would be an advantage.
On that size tele you would benefit from having full 1080p HD (which both come with). for viewing purposes alone the second tele would be best as it has a considerably higher contrast ratio of the two, the seond one also comes with an useful extra HDMI port which will be usefull in time to come as more HDMI products become more available. If you are woried about sound (which i wasnt as surround sound was active) then go and listen to them but they will both sound different when in your room as there will be different facotrs effecting the acoustics of the room. the 100hz refresh rate will also be an advanatge over the other tele which i guess is a 60hz
